Provide child welfare services to promote personal self-determination, self-sufficiency, family unity and economic stability.

Tribal Family ICWA Worker

Part-time / eligible for partial fringe benefits

Village based position - Larsen Bay

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Assesses communitys parenting and child safety needs; assists in development and facilitation of appropriate training; and refers clients to other resources when necessary.

Coordinate relevant support groups to residents and youth.

Acts as an advocate and provides case management services for families at risk of child abuse/neglect.

Develops positive work relationship with Office of Childrens Services, and other Social Service agencies to ensure professional services for families and children.

Meets with Social Worker, Family Services Coordinator and Tribal Council for direction and guidance in case contacts and development of activities. Communicates with other providers and state and federal agencies when necessary.

Submits written reports to respective Tribal Council and/or Family Services Coordinator on a monthly basis.

Participate and case staffing in situations concerning Tribal ICWA cases.

Facilitates background checks of volunteers and other residents, staff or Tribal Council members who may be in charge of supervision and/or discipline over any youth.

Plans and implements prevention and recreational activities with families and children with Tribal Council involvement.

Stores case contact notes and client files in a locked cabinet to protect client privacy.

Requests technical assistance from KANA Community Services when necessary.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, ICWA related laws and regulations. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before small groups of people and in court settings.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database, Internet, Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.

Must be able to travel to remote communities in small planes.
